TALLAHASSEE: One of the dumbest things to witness in Florida politics in quite a while was State House Democrat Susan Valdez “switching” to the Republican Party yesterday & the way it was rolled out.
Some people online were trying to sell it as a “huge” win for the Republican Party, lol.
Meanwhile, this is a far-left Democrat who believes in genital mutilation of minors, gun control, higher taxes, late term abortion, more government, open borders, amnesty, hate speech codes, political correctness, DEI/CRT, & the LBGTQ+ agenda.
BUT, now she has an “R” next to her name so republicans are now told to be happy—lol.
It’s a perfect illustration of what happens when you have empty-suit elected Republican officials who don’t believe the Republican Party means any specific thing at all.
It’s why Republicans have continued to win a MAJORITY of elections in the country over the last 50 years—and yet have retreated & lost on nearly every issue during that time.
Our elected Republican officials need to understand that The Republican Party actually has to mean something… It has to have a core set of philosophical beliefs and principles that officials are held accountable to.
We should not be marking it as a “triumph” when somebody enters the party who shares literally ZERO beliefs with the Republican Party platform and then moderates the caucus further.
It’s why as Chairman of the Lake County Republican party, I helped pass the first platform & list of annual legislative priorities for elected officials to pass.
They were later adopted by the state party @FloridaGOP
Republican electeds should be focused on passing conservative legislation… Not recruiting people to the party who are going to water down our caucus and moderate it…
The legislature is already dominated by RINOs who have already announced that they are going to be fighting against open carry of firearms & voting to pass mass migrant housing plans for Florida’s 1.1 MILLION illegals (filed last week).
They should focus on conservative policy—instead of nominalism.
All of this is another reason why the Florida House MUST start a FREEDOM CAUCUS.
